What Does Your Business Card Style Say About You?

Business card style makes a difference. The style, design, and quality of a business card say it all about you or your company. In this article, we will discuss about different styles available, how they are interpreted, and what you can do to improve them.

Black and White versus Full Color

In the past, black and white is still acceptable. But in today’s world, full color business cards are a must. People will be drawn to colored cards in as much their attention is captured by colored videos and images over black and white ones. Business-wise, using plain business cards is like wearing an old suit for a business meeting.

A full color card will turn into an eye sore when colors are not chosen properly. So make sure to pick the right colors and color combinations in order to make the card more attractive and inviting.

Light or Heavy Card Stock

When it comes to card stock, the heavier is the better. A heavy card stock implies professionalism. So use a stock of .14 or even higher.

Printing both Front and Back

The back portion of the card is often not utilized. But to make the most out of the space available, both front and back must be printed. You can use the front for important information and take advantage of the back area for additional messages you may want to convey. You can print your personal photo or company’s logo; write vision or mission; include promotional images, and more.

Material Used

The material used also matter. You can use thick cards which are soft, and with rounded corners for a more impressive presentation. Never settle for anything less than these. You may have to shell out a little more than you would compared to cheap prints but the effectiveness of high quality cards makes their prices justifiable.

Card Finishing

Aside from material used, an attractive finishing is also needed. Some of the modern and highly effective card finishes include the following – glossy, matte and smooth. You may also apply UV coating, raised print, embossing, foil, spot, etc. in case the stock permits the application of these.

Water Resistance

Invest on printing cards using water resistant inks. This prevents the card content and message from being washed out by water spills, rain, and accidental washing.

Font Style

The font also makes a difference. A font that is difficult to read leaves a negative impression about your or your company. Thus, make sure to choose the right font that anyone can easily understand.

Images, Illustrations, and Visuals

Despite a limited size, business cards are incomplete when only textual content is present. Whether it is your photo, company icon, product or service logo, there is still a need to have non-text elements on the card.

When using photos and other imagery, it is recommended to use an original file you own. Much as you are tempted to do so, don’t use free photo stock available online not only due to copyright issues but also because there is a tendency that these are no longer original. It may have been already used by someone else. Originality is important not only due to the legal side of the matter but also because it tells a potential customer that you are serious enough about your business or profession by spending time to come up with an original card.

These elements of a business card style will be your guide in order to make the most out of your personal or company business card. Remember that your business card says everything about you so it’s best to make sure that what it says will benefit your business or professional life.
